How to Sell Items in Travel Town: A Strategic Guide
Selling items is more than just cleanup—it's a key skill for managing your board and boosting your coin balance. Learn the pro strategy here.
Let's face it: we've all been there. You're in the middle of a merging frenzy, tapping your producers for all they're worth, and suddenly... you hit a wall. Your board is a chaotic mess, every single square is filled, and you have no space to make the next crucial item. Progress grinds to a halt. In this moment, the ability to sell items transforms from a minor feature into an essential lifeline.
But selling items in Travel Town isn't just about making emergency space. It's a strategic tool that expert players use to generate quick cash, pivot focus, and maintain a clean, efficient workspace. This guide will cover everything you need to know, from the basic mechanics of selling to the advanced strategy of what to sell and what to save.
The Core Mechanics: Selling, Trashing, and Undoing
Before diving into strategy, let's cover the fundamentals of how to get items off your board.
How to Sell Items (Level 2 and Higher)
Any board item that is Level 2 or above can be sold for coins. The process is straightforward:
- Select the Item: Tap on the item you wish to sell. A small information bar will appear at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the Sell Button: On the right side of this bar, you'll see a "Sell" button marked with a coin icon (💲). Tap it.
- Collect Your Coins: The item will disappear, and a sum of coins will be added to your balance. The amount of coins you receive directly corresponds to the item's level—the higher the level, the bigger the payout.
How to Trash Items (Level 1 Only)
You cannot sell the most basic, Level 1 items that come directly from a producer. These have no coin value. Instead, you can only discard them.
To trash a Level 1 item, simply tap on it. The "Sell" button will be replaced by a trash can icon. Tapping this will remove the item from your board permanently. Use this sparingly, as it's often better to make a 5-merge to clear out five low-level items at once.
The "Undo" Button: Your Last Chance to Reconsider
Made a mistake? Sold something valuable by accident? Travel Town provides a small safety net. Immediately after you sell an item, the sell button transforms into an "Undo" button. Tapping it will instantly return the item to your board, but it will also deduct the coins you just received from your balance.
CRITICAL WARNING: This undo option is fleeting. As soon as you make another move—tapping a producer, merging another item, or collecting a reward—the "Undo" button will disappear forever. Be absolutely sure about your decision before continuing to play.
First Line of Defense: Storage is Better Than Selling
Before you even consider selling, ask yourself: "Is this item valuable?" If the answer is yes, your first option should always be your inventory (the Pouch at the bottom left). Drag valuable items like high-level producers, gem chests, or key task items into your storage. This keeps your board clear without sacrificing hard-earned progress.
Remember, storage space is limited but can be expanded using diamonds. Investing in storage is one of the smartest long-term plays you can make.
The Art of the Sale: What You Should and Shouldn't Sell
Knowing what to get rid of is what separates good players from great ones. Here's a simple framework.
Great Items to Sell:
- High-Level Byproducts: Are you working on a high-level wood order but your board is cluttered with max-level shells? Those shells are perfect candidates for selling to get a quick infusion of coins.
- Excess Items After a Merge: When you need one Level 5 item, and you make it by merging five Level 4 items, you're left with an extra Level 5 item. If you have no immediate use for it, selling it is a great way to capitalize.
- Items from Inactive Producers: If you've stored a producer in your pouch and have no plans to use it soon, selling off its remaining items from your board is smart cleanup.
Items to Almost NEVER Sell:
- Producer Parts: The items used to create or upgrade producers are too rare and valuable to sell. Always save them.
- Chests and Piggy Banks: The contents of a chest are always worth more than its sell price. Merge them to the max level for the best rewards.
- Boosters: Items like Jokers and Splitters are game-changers. Their strategic value is immense, far outweighing their coin price. Guard them with your life!
By treating the sell button as a strategic resource rather than a panic button, you can maintain a clean board, accelerate your coin earnings, and ensure your journey through Travel Town is as smooth and efficient as possible.
