How to Sell Items in Travel Town
A guide to the art of selling. Learn how to do it, what you get in return, and the best strategy for when to sell versus when to merge.

How the Selling Mechanic Works
In Travel Town, you have the ability to sell almost any item on your game board or in your pouch. To do this, simply tap, hold, and drag the item to the "Sell" button located at the bottom right of your screen. A confirmation will appear showing you what you will receive in return. Confirm the sale, and the item will be removed, and the reward will be added to your balance.
The reward for selling an item is **not always coins**. Many items, especially those from primary producer chains, will give you energy instead of gold. This makes selling a powerful tool for getting a quick energy boost when you're completely out.
When Should You Sell an Item?
Selling is a strategic decision. While it can be tempting to sell everything to clear up space, you're often destroying potential progress. Here are the best times to consider selling:
1. To Clear Board Space for a Higher Priority
This is the most common reason to sell. Your board is a limited resource. If your board is clogged with items from a merge chain you don't currently need (e.g., you have a lot of high-level shells, but no tasks require them), it's often wise to sell them off to make room for items you *do* need. This keeps your production line focused and efficient.
2. For an Emergency Energy Boost
Are you just a few energy points away from being able to tap a producer to get the last item you need for a major task or an event milestone? This is a perfect time to sell something. Find an unneeded, mid-level item on your board and sell it for a quick injection of energy to get you over the finish line. Selling a Level 4 or 5 item can often give you enough energy for several producer taps.
3. To Get Rid of Low-Level Producer Parts
Once you have a high-level producer, the low-level parts for it (e.g., Level 1-3 parts) become less valuable and can clutter your board. Since they don't sell for much, this is more about housekeeping than gaining a big reward. Clearing them out prevents accidental merges and keeps your board tidy.
What Items Give the Best Return?
The value of an item when sold increases exponentially with its level. A Level 2 item might sell for 1 coin, but a Level 8 item from the same chain could sell for hundreds of coins or a large amount of energy. The key takeaway is: **never sell low-level items unless you absolutely have to.**
The best items to sell for a big return are high-level items from long merge chains that you don't currently need for a task. For example, if you have a Level 10 item but your tasks only require Level 7 items, selling the Level 10 item could give you a massive boost of coins or energy to help you complete other objectives faster.
What You Should Almost NEVER Sell
- High-Level Producers: Never sell a high-level producer. The value you get from the items it produces over its lifetime far exceeds its one-time sale price.
- Rare Items (Splitters, Jokers): These items are incredibly rare and valuable. Their strategic use is worth far more than their sale price. See our guides on the Splitter and Joker for more info.
- The Last Item in a Chain: Be careful not to sell the only high-level item you have from a particular merge chain if you think a task for it might appear soon. Rebuilding it from scratch will cost a lot of time and energy.
Selling is a vital part of smart board management. Used correctly, it's not a waste, but a strategic tool to maintain focus, clear space, and provide emergency resources when you need them most.
