How to Play Travel Town: A Beginner's Guide
New to the charming world of Travel Town? This guide covers the essential concepts of merging, energy, and completing tasks to help you get started on the right foot.
The Core Objective: Merging to Rebuild
At its heart, Travel Town is a "merge" game. Your primary goal is to rebuild a beautiful seaside town that has fallen into disrepair. You achieve this by fulfilling tasks given by the townspeople. To get the items needed for these tasks, you must merge identical, lower-level items to create higher-level ones. The core gameplay loop is simple and satisfying: produce items, merge them, and complete tasks to earn rewards.
Understanding the Game Board and Key Elements
Your main screen consists of a grid-like game board where all the action happens. Here are the key elements you'll interact with:
- Producers: These are special items like the Old Well, Lighthouse, or Fishing Net. They are your source of new items. Tapping a producer consumes energy and spits out lower-level mergeable items. Our Producers Guide has more in-depth information.
- Mergeable Items: These are the items that come from producers, like shells, fish, or buckets. You need to drag and drop identical items onto each other to merge them into a new, higher-level item. For example, two small shells merge into a bigger shell.
- The Pouch: This is your temporary storage area, located at the bottom of the screen. When your board is full, you can drag items into the pouch to make space. Be warned, storage space is limited!
Energy: The Fuel for Your Journey
Energy is the most critical resource in the game. It is represented by the purple lightning bolt at the top of your screen.
- Spending Energy: You spend energy every time you tap on a producer to get new items.
- Recharging Energy: Energy recharges automatically over time, but it's a slow process.
- Getting More Energy: This is where we come in! The fastest way to get more is by claiming Travel Town free energy links from our homepage. You can also get energy by leveling up, completing tasks, and participating in special events.
The Task List: Your Path to Progress
On the left side of your screen, you'll see a list of tasks from the various townspeople. These tasks are your main objectives.
How Tasks Work:
- A townsperson will request a specific high-level item (e.g., a Golden Fish).
- You need to tap your producers to generate low-level items (e.g., small fish).
- Merge these items repeatedly on your board until you create the requested Golden Fish.
- Drag the completed item to the task list to turn it in.
Completing tasks is how you earn the two most important progression items: Gold and Experience Points (XP).
Gold, Diamonds, and Experience (XP)
These are the primary rewards you'll be working towards.
- Gold: Earned from completing tasks. It is used to upgrade the buildings in your town, such as the Cafe or the Shop. Upgrading buildings is the ultimate goal and unlocks new areas and producers.
- Experience Points (XP): Blue stars earned from completing tasks. Collecting enough XP will cause you to level up. Leveling up completely refills your energy bar and increases your maximum energy capacity.
- Diamonds: The premium currency. You can earn small amounts of free diamonds through gameplay, but they are mainly acquired through purchases. Diamonds can be used to speed up processes or buy energy and other valuable items from the shop.
Your First Steps: A Mini-Walkthrough
- Follow the Tutorial: The game does an excellent job of guiding you through the first few merges and tasks. Pay close attention.
- Focus on One Task at a Time: Don't try to create items for three different tasks at once. Your board will become cluttered. Focus on the items needed for the top task on your list.
- Merge in Fives: Whenever possible, try to merge five identical items at once instead of just two. Merging five items gives you two higher-level items, which is a much more efficient use of your resources.
- Don't Waste Energy: Before you tap a producer, look at your board. Is there space for the items it will produce? If not, clear some space first by merging or selling less important items. For more tips on selling, check out our guide on selling.
Welcome to Travel Town! With this basic knowledge, you're ready to start your journey. The key is patience and smart resource management. Have fun merging and rebuilding your beautiful town!
